Which model should I use?
chatmodel has many AI models from different companies. You don't need to know them all. Here's a simple way to pick, based on what you want to do.
First: what do you want to do?
Chat and write (emails, questions, plans, explanations): use a chat model. See all chat models.
Make a picture (a card, a poster, a photo edit): use an image model. See all image models.
Make a short video: use a video model. See all video models.
For chat: fast or careful?
Think of it like asking a quick question at the counter or sitting down with an expert.
Everyday questions and short messages: a fast, light model is perfect. It answers almost instantly and makes your usage last longer.
Long, careful work (a tricky letter, a big document, a detailed plan): pick a top model, like Claude Opus 5 or OpenAI GPT 5.5. Some top models think before they answer: slower, but more careful.
Not sure between the two big names? Read ChatGPT vs Claude. For writing in particular, see the best AI for writing.
For images: what kind of picture?
Each image model has its own style. Some are best with words inside pictures, others with realistic photos or with changing a photo you already have. Nano Banana Pro is a good choice for editing your own photos, like restoring an old one. Our best AI image generator page shows real results side by side.
The easiest rule
Start with the model that’s already selected. If the answer isn’t quite right, switch model and ask again. In chatmodel it takes one click, and seeing two answers side by side is the quickest way to find your favorite.
