In plain words
Grok Imagine Video is made by xAI, the same company as the Grok 4.5 chat model. It does three jobs: it makes a clip from a description, it brings a photo to life, and it changes a video you already have.
That last one is what sets it apart. Most video models in chatmodel start from words or pictures. This one can also take a clip and rework it.
The clips are silent and the sharpest size is 720p.
How to get the most out of it
- One change at a time. When editing a clip, ask for one thing, like “make it snow”, then try the next.
- Go short when it fits. A 2 or 3 second clip is enough for a reaction or a greeting.
- Describe the movement. “The tail swishes” says more than “a cat”.
- Plan the sound separately, since the clip has none.
How it compares with the rest of the family
It is xAI’s only video model in chatmodel. Its relatives make pictures: Grok Imagine Image 2.0 and the older Grok Imagine Image. A handy way to work is to make a picture with one of those first, then bring it to life here.
When to pick another model
If you need sound, choose Veo 3.1 Fast or Seedance 2.0. If you need a sharper clip for a TV, Kling V3.0 goes up to 4K. For help choosing, see which model should I use.
