In plain words
Claude Opus 4.8 is a chat assistant from Anthropic. It’s an Opus, the careful size of Claude, and the Opus 4 version that came after Opus 4.7 in chatmodel.
What sets it apart from the earlier Opus 4 versions: it can search the web. It still thinks before it answers, reads PDFs and understands photos, so it can mix what’s in your document with what it finds online.
How to get the most out of it
- Say you want it to search. “Look up the latest” makes clear you need recent information.
- Ask for sources and open the ones that matter before you act.
- Describe who it’s for. Age, budget, what they enjoy. Research is only useful when it fits.
- Ask for a table when you compare products. It’s easier to read than paragraphs.
How it compares with its siblings
Claude Opus 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 came before it and don’t search the web. Claude Opus 5 is newer. For quick everyday questions with web search, Claude Sonnet 5 answers faster, and Claude Fable 5 is for the most demanding jobs.
