In plain words
Mistral Large 3 is a chat assistant from Mistral, a French AI company. In the app it’s described as Mistral’s most capable model, and it understands photos and documents as well as text.
It thinks before it answers, which makes it steadier on requests with several parts, like a plan, a comparison or a long letter. It doesn’t search the web in chatmodel, so it works from what it knows and from what you give it.
How to get the most out of it
- Upload the whole document. A contract, a letter or a report. Then ask your questions about it.
- Say who you’re writing to. “A hotel owner”, “my landlord”, “a company’s complaints team”. The tone follows.
- Ask for the translation too when you write in another language, so you know what you’re sending.
- Break big jobs into steps. First the plan, then the details, then the final draft.
How it compares with its siblings
Mistral has two chat models in chatmodel. Mistral Large 3 is the more capable one. Ministral 3B is much smaller: quicker for short, simple requests, but it doesn’t think things through first and can miss details.
When to pick another model
If you need recent information from the web, try GPT 5.5. For warm, personal writing, many people prefer Claude Sonnet 5; see the best AI for writing. To translate a text quickly, the Translate tool gets you started in one click.
