In plain words
Nano Banana 2 is the follow-up to the famous Nano Banana. It is the same model as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image: Google uses the technical name, and most people use the nickname.
What you notice first is how much it puts in. In our test, a simple window seat became a whole reading nook with rugs, cushions and a stone wall. The grandmother had a wicker basket overflowing with tomatoes. The whale threw rainbows across the dunes and a hiker with poles stood below it.
That generosity is lovely for scenes. For designs it can go too far: it added a second line of text to our poster.
How to get the most out of it
- Let it fill in the scene. A short description often comes back richer than you wrote it.
- Fence in the words. “Only the words VISIT LISBON, nothing else written” keeps posters clean.
- Ask for a flat design when you need a card to print: “the card design only, no table”.
- Refine with small asks. “Remove the flag” is quicker than starting again.
How it compares with its siblings
It sits in the middle of the family. The first Nano Banana is quicker and plainer. Nano Banana Pro is more capable and careful. Nano Banana Lite 2 is a lighter version that made pictures in about 4 to 5 seconds.
When to pick another model
If you want the picture to stay close to what you wrote, GPT Image 2.5 Flare added fewer extras. The image library shows every model side by side.
