In plain words
Gemini 3.1 Flash Image is Google’s official name for the same model people call Nano Banana 2. Both entries open the same model, and the pictures are identical.
Reading the name: Gemini is Google’s AI family. 3.1 is a newer version than 2.5. Flash means it belongs to the quick models. Image means it makes and changes pictures.
In our test it was a little slower than the 2.5 version but noticeably richer in detail. Every scene came back fuller than we described, with extra props, textures and light. It spelled our poster and card correctly, though it also added a line of text we did not ask for.
How to get the most out of it
- Describe the mood, let it fill the room. “A cozy reading corner on a rainy day” is enough.
- List the exact words for posters and cards, and say “no other text”.
- Ask for “the flat design” if you want to print a card rather than see a photo of one.
- Tone it down when needed. “Simple, few objects” gives a calmer picture.
How it compares with the rest of the family
Gemini 2.5 Flash Image is the older, quicker version. Gemini 3 Pro Image follows your description more closely than the Flash models. Imagen 4.0 Fast is a separate Google family that makes pictures but cannot edit your photos.
When to pick another model
For quiet, natural photos, GPT Image 2 kept things simpler. Our GPT Image vs Nano Banana comparison shows two leading models side by side.
