In plain words
Kimi K2.6 is a chat assistant from Moonshot AI. It follows Kimi K2.5 in the K2 line, one step below the newer Kimi K3.
It thinks before it answers, understands photos and screenshots, and helps with code. In chatmodel it doesn’t read PDFs and doesn’t search the web.
How to get the most out of it
- Show, don’t describe. A screenshot of the message or a photo of the page saves a lot of back and forth.
- Say who the text is for. “A friend who has never been to my house” or “neighbors of all ages”.
- Ask it to teach, not tell, when you help with homework: “explain, don’t give the answer”.
- Leave blanks for private details like codes and phone numbers, and fill them in yourself.
How it compares with the rest of the family
Kimi has four chat models in chatmodel. Kimi K2 is the earliest and lightest, and Kimi K2.5 is the version just before this one. Kimi K3 is newer and more capable, and the only Kimi that reads PDFs. K2.6 is the everyday pick of the K2 line.
When to pick another model
For long PDFs, try Kimi K3. For anything recent, GPT 5.5 can search the web. For heartfelt letters, see the best AI for writing.
