In plain words
Google makes two families of image models. The Gemini image models, nicknamed Nano Banana, can make pictures and change your photos. Imagen is the other family. Imagen 4.0 Fast is its quicker version.
It does one job: you describe a picture, and it makes it. It cannot edit a photo you upload, so it is not the one for fixing family pictures or changing a background.
We could not run it when we made the pictures for this site, so there are no examples here. We would rather tell you that than describe results we haven’t seen.
How to get the most out of it
- Describe the whole scene. Who or what, where, the light and the style.
- Pick the shape first. Tall for a phone wallpaper, wide for a presentation.
- Name the style. “A photo”, “a watercolor”, “a vintage poster”.
- Compare with another model. Send the same description to Nano Banana 2 and keep the one you prefer.
How it compares with the rest of the family
The other Google image models in chatmodel belong to the Gemini family and all edit photos: Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, Gemini 3 Pro Image and Nano Banana Lite 2.
